"A must buy" - Showcase Music Magazine
Rock Out HIV is a compilation CD put out by the Chicago area based Toxic Bag Records and DonÕt Know Records to benefit The Children's Place Association, which helps children dealing with HIV/AIDS. It contains 12 tracks by some of Chicago's hottest local bands: There is the extremely hooky music of Braintree, who would fit very well with Collective Soul, Stone Temple Pilots and Veruca Salt, who are also very well seasoned in the Chicago club circuit. The very Beatles-like writing style, mixed with techno-esqe production of Prodigy, that is the brilliance of Evil Genius. Then there is the 80Õs pop metal retro sound of Question of Honour (Skid Row, Van Halen, Poison) that has become extremely popular on the college radio scene here in Illinois. And there is also the surf punk-ish sounds of Screaming Meemies (B-52's).
Both Braintree and Evil Genius were picked from bands all over the world to appear on the Marillion tribute CD "Hope for the Future" and received extremely high reviews from fans of Marillion and the band itself. "This version is better than our original," said Mark Kelly of Marillion about Braintree's contribution.
Neither Toxic Bag Records, or Don't Know Records, make any profit from this CD in any way. 100% of all money received by the record companies from the sales of this CD go directly to The Children's Place Association, which helps children dealing with HIV/AIDS. The Rock Out HIV CD is available in most record stores in the Midwest area of Northern America.
